The Capital

Including Santa Cruz, La Laguna, Candelaria & surrounds

Whilst generalising a little we like to divide the different Remote Working Communities into three different areas. The South is the busiest area for Digital Nomads on the island. The North is the original area for Remote Workers on the island. The Capital Area, based around the capital of Santa Cruz, is a growing area for Remote Workers who want to come to the island but still have a cosmopolitan lifestyle.

Whilst sounding like we are in a post-apocalyptic “Hunger Games” version of Tenerife, when we mention the Capital area we are of course referring to the capital city and largest city in Tenerife, Santa Cruz. This has turned into a bustling metropolis in recent years. You can get a Spanish city feel when working remotely here. It is also the best place to be if you want to speak Spanish as out of the three different areas, this is the place where English is spoken the least.

There is a magnificent beach called Playa de Las Teresitas (although artificial with yellow sand flown in from the Sahara) just north of the city and perfect for weekend trips. The town of San Cristóbal de La Laguna is right next door to Santa Cruz de Tenerife (albiet at a higher elevation). This is a great spanish town with very good restaurants and coffee shops and is a student town as it houses the University of La Laguna.

There is also the town of Candelaria which is becoming very popular with Digital Nomads and Remote Workers, it is only 17km down the coast from Santa Cruz but provides a local coastal town vibe, expect a traditional experience and the surrounding area has great beaches and interesting caves.
